The Role

We’re seeking a Backend Engineer to design and scale the systems powering our AI and ML infrastructure. You’ll work on compute-heavy, high-performance backend systems that support next-gen digital identity applications used by millions.

Based in San Francisco or Los Angeles, this role reports directly to the VP of Engineering and offers the chance to help shape one of the most technically ambitious consumer AI products in the world.

What You’ll Do

• Develop backend microservices and infrastructure for mobile and web applications.

• Design and build AI/ML and LLM systems to power Genies’ avatar technology.

• Optimize system performance for load, latency, and reliability.

• Automate deployment pipelines and ensure high availability across cloud environments.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to shape roadmaps and deliver cutting-edge features.

• Apply and evolve best practices in cloud security, scalability, and distributed systems.

• Lead architectural design reviews and mentor other engineers.

What You’ll Bring

• 3+ years of backend software engineering experience.

• Strong programming skills in Golang or Python (C++ a plus).

• Experience building ML/LLM infrastructure or other heavy compute systems.

• Proficiency in AWS or GCP, REST APIs, and distributed databases (SQL/NoSQL).

• Understanding of microservices, event-driven systems, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Passion for working on frontier tech — AI, digital identity, and virtual worlds.

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaborative mindset.
