The Role
We’re hiring a Lead Data Engineer to architect and scale the data infrastructure that powers decision-making, personalization, and product intelligence at Genies.
This is a hands-on leadership role — you’ll define how data is structured, stored, and used across the company. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure our data is clean, actionable, and strategic.
What You’ll Do
• Own event structure and taxonomy: design and maintain frameworks for event tracking, naming conventions, and alignment with product goals.
• Architect scalable storage systems: evaluate and implement data warehouses, lakes, or transactional stores optimized for security, cost, and performance.
• Empower business teams: guide analytics tooling (e.g., Mixpanel, Amplitude) and ensure seamless integration across the data stack.
• Build reliable pipelines: develop robust ETL processes with Airflow or Dagster, ensuring data quality, documentation, and maintainability.
• Lead technical direction: mentor engineers and establish best practices for data modeling, monitoring, and testing.
• Partner across teams: work with product, growth, and engineering to turn data into business impact.
What You’ll Bring
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Proven expertise in SQL, data modeling, and analytical schema design.
• Hands-on experience with Airflow or Dagster for orchestration.
• Deep understanding of cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
• Experience integrating third-party analytics tools (Mixpanel, Amplitude).
• Ability to define and scale event tracking frameworks.
• Strong leadership and mentorship experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Bonus: experience in growth-stage tech companies.
Why You’ll Love Working at Genies
• Competitive salary (DOE) + equity in a well-funded startup.
• Full health, dental, and vision coverage (Anthem + Kaiser).
• Unlimited PTO and flexible work-from-home policy.
• Paid parental leave, wellness reimbursements, and 401(k).
• Bright, creative LA office — complete with a slide.
• Choice of MacBook or Windows laptop.
• Opportunity to shape the data backbone of a next-generation AI platform.
