The Role

We’re seeking a Lead Engineer (Rails/React) to join our CMS engineering team, the group powering Circle’s core user experience — including discussions, courses, home feeds, search, and digests.

You’ll lead development of our next-generation website builder, used by millions of members across Circle communities. This role combines technical leadership and hands-on coding, offering the opportunity to shape the future of how creators design, customize, and scale their digital presence.

This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of performance, product design, and leadership.

What You’ll Do

• Lead backend and full-stack development for Circle’s new website builder and CMS.

• Collaborate closely with product, design, and leadership to shape features and architecture.

• Ship performant, reliable, and scalable code in Ruby on Rails and React.

• Manage and mentor a small team of engineers — guiding development, process, and quality.

• Own project delivery from planning to launch, balancing speed with precision.

• Drive performance improvements across backend systems and infrastructure.

• Design and evaluate A/B tests to optimize product performance.

• Align technical strategy with business and product goals.

What You’ll Bring

• 8+ years in backend or full-stack engineering, with deep Rails expertise (Sidekiq, Kafka, Postgres).

• Proven experience building performant, scalable applications.

• 3+ years of technical leadership or team management experience.

• Excellent communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally.

• Strategic thinking with a hands-on execution mindset.

• Fluent in English (CEFR C2 / ILR 5).

• Bonus:

• Experience with React, page builders, or CMS products.

• Prior work with AI tools or automation systems.

• Founder or startup experience in a high-growth environment.

Compensation & Benefits

💰 $160,000 – $170,000 USD + equity
