The Role

We’re hiring a Lead Security & Safety Engineer to architect and safeguard the foundation of Genies’ developer platform—the engine powering an interoperable avatar network. You’ll design systems that protect creators, data, and infrastructure while enabling developers to build at high velocity.

This is a hands-on leadership role based in Los Angeles (HQ) or San Mateo (Bay Area), reporting to the Director of Engineering. You’ll shape the balance between development agility and airtight security in a company defining the future of identity.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and implement security systems to protect company data and infrastructure from emerging threats.

• Lead the design of moderation, safety, and anti-abuse systems, integrating ethical and technical safeguards.

• Enhance and secure API endpoints, distributed systems, and cloud environments.

• Harden internal systems using best practices across AWS, GCP, GSuite, GitHub, and other SaaS tools.

• Lead security compliance, audits, and 3rd-party integrations.

• Build data protection systems using DLP, intelligent access control, and “secure-by-default” architecture.

• Guide cross-functional teams on IT security, infrastructure hardening, and secure development practices.

• Stay ahead of AI-driven security challenges, adapting to the evolving threat landscape.

• Mentor engineers, shape internal security standards, and influence long-term technology strategy.

What You’ll Bring

• 7+ years of professional experience in software or security engineering.

• Proven experience planning and scaling security systems in startup or growth environments.

• Proficiency in Python or Golang, with experience hardening distributed applications.

• Strong background in AI safety, moderation, and anti-abuse tooling.

• Familiarity with cloud security (AWS, GCP) and compliance frameworks.

• Experience with security audits, zero trust models, and data loss prevention systems.

• Hands-on experience designing API security, caching systems, and distributed databases.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and risk assessment skills.

• A proactive, innovative mindset—balancing protection and progress.
