The Role

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to architect and scale the core systems powering Genies’ AI and ML infrastructure. You’ll tackle high-performance computing challenges at the intersection of AI, 3D, and real-time digital identity—building scalable, efficient systems that fuel our avatar ecosystem.

Based in Los Angeles HQ or San Mateo (SF Bay Area) and reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role blends hands-on coding, architecture, and leadership within a high-growth, engineering-led culture.

What You’ll Do

• Build and scale backend microservices supporting AI, mobile, and web platforms.

• Design and implement ML infrastructure systems and AI-driven applications.

• Develop APIs for internal and external use, ensuring reliability and performance.

• Optimize systems for scalability, load, latency, and fault tolerance.

• Automate, test, and deploy production-ready code using CI/CD pipelines.

• Apply best practices in security, observability, and distributed systems.

• Collaborate cross-functionally to refine architecture and technical roadmaps.

• Mentor peers and contribute to engineering culture through code reviews and shared learning.

What You’ll Bring

• 3+ years of backend or systems engineering experience.

• Proficiency in Golang or Python, with experience in compute-heavy or ML-based workloads.

• Strong background in data structures, algorithms, and distributed system design.

• Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP, REST APIs, and microservices architectures.

• Familiarity with NoSQL, relational databases, caching systems, and event-driven frameworks.

• Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and security best practices.

• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

• Creative, analytical, and self-driven with a collaborative mindset.
