Why Polar
Building, shipping, and scaling software has never been easier — but monetizing it has never been harder.
Polar is building the platform that powers the next generation of one-developer unicorns — engineers who scale global software businesses in six lines of code. We’re creating the infrastructure that lets small teams operate like world-class companies: automating billing, compliance, and financial operations so developers can focus entirely on product and growth.
Join a small, high-velocity, engineering-led team distributed across Europe. We ship fast, think long-term, and care deeply about developer experience and precision in everything we build.
The Role
We’re hiring a Senior Data Engineer to architect and scale the data systems that power Polar’s core infrastructure. From revenue recognition to global payouts, our platform depends on reliable, real-time, auditable data.
This is Polar’s first dedicated data role — you’ll define how data is modeled, processed, and used across the company. You’ll build systems for accuracy and scale, but also for usability — ensuring that every team, from product to finance, can trust and act on data instantly.
What You’ll Do
• Own the design and evolution of Polar’s data stack — pipelines, warehouse, and models.
• Build ETL/ELT pipelines for product, billing, and financial data.
• Define and enforce data quality, observability, and governance standards.
• Design and ship Metric APIs for developers using Polar’s dashboards.
• Partner with Finance to ensure accurate revenue, payout, and accounting flows.
• Work with Product and Growth to provide analytics for activation, retention, and revenue optimization.
• Build internal data APIs, dashboards, and tools for self-serve data access.
• Mentor engineers on best practices for data instrumentation and usage.
What You’ll Bring
• 7+ years as a Data Engineer or similar, designing and scaling modern data systems.
• Hands-on experience building from 0→1 as the first or early data hire.
• Expert in SQL, Python, and modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Postgres).
• Strong background with ETL/ELT frameworks (dbt, Airflow, Dagster, etc.).
• Experience modeling data for analytics and financial systems.
• Proven ability to ensure data accuracy and reliability in high-stakes environments.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
Bonus:
• Experience with payments, billing, or financial data systems.
• Built and scaled the first data infrastructure at a startup.
• Contributed to open source data tools or frameworks.
