About the Role

Backbone is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to shape the architecture and backbone (pun intended) of the platform. You’ll build scalable APIs, lead cloud infrastructure design, and work cross-functionally with product, design, and data science teams to create tools and features that power the world’s most immersive mobile gaming experience.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an engineer who loves building at scale, thrives in small teams, and wants to influence the technical direction of a fast-growing gaming brand.

What You’ll Do

• Design and ship scalable backend services and APIs for Backbone’s ecosystem.

• Define best practices for cloud development and infrastructure-as-code.

• Collaborate with product, data, and client teams to bring new features to life.

• Lead technical initiatives across teams with autonomy and accountability.

• Research and implement emerging tools and frameworks to optimize performance.

• Mentor engineers through reviews and discussions, maintaining high engineering standards.

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years of backend software development experience.

• Strong experience building APIs (GraphQL or REST).

• Deep familiarity with modern cloud stacks (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

• Hands-on experience with Pulumi or similar IaC tools.

• Strong understanding of distributed systems and scalable architectures.

• Proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript (a plus).

• Strong fundamentals in computer science and engineering best practices.

• A passion for gaming and understanding gamer behavior.
